Studio Spotlight: Gothic Dawn Tarot & Oracle
A moment to linger on one deck at a time.
This month, I've chosen Gothic Dawn.
Some decks arrive fully formed, while others seem to emerge slowly from the shadows. Gothic Dawn has always felt like the latter. Inspired by old photographs, silent films, candlelit rooms, forgotten cemeteries, and the romance of the gothic tradition, it explores the beauty that can be found in darkness.
The tarot deck is unapologetically gothic. Black wings, moonlit figures, grand arches, ravens, and quiet moments of reflection fill the cards, creating a world that feels both elegant and timeless. Rather than focusing on fear or horror, Gothic Dawn embraces mystery, intuition, longing, and transformation.
Yet what makes this collection especially close to my heart is its companion oracle.
Inspired by vintage fortune telling, the Gothic Dawn Oracle reads like the contents of an old curiosity cabinet. A pocket watch, a black mirror, a raven, a diary, a candelabra, a phantom bride. Each card offers messages that feel as though they have been whispered across time, carrying the atmosphere of old parlours, velvet curtains, and flickering candlelight.
The two decks can be used separately, but together they create something rather special. The tarot explores the deeper story, while the oracle offers symbols, omens, and gentle guidance, much like the fortune-tellers and spirit readers of another age.
There is a certain magic that only appears after dark. In candlelight, old stories, forgotten fortunes, and the quiet spaces between questions and answers.
Sometimes the answers arrive in sunlight.
Sometimes they arrive by candlelight.
