August at the Emporium: Sacred Isles, Faraway Parcels & the First Signs of Autumn
As September arrives and the first hints of autumn begin to creep in, I thought I’d take a little look back at another wonderfully busy month here at Hattie Thorn Tarot Emporium.
August seems to have disappeared in a blur of new artwork, parcels, post office trips and far too many ideas scribbled down for future decks. I’m fairly certain my sketchbook is now breeding when I’m not looking.
The biggest arrival of the month was Sacred Isles Tarot & Oracle, a project that has been incredibly close to my heart.
Inspired by the ancient landscapes, folklore and wild places of Britain, these decks are quieter and more contemplative than some of my work. They are filled with windswept coastlines, standing stones, old woodland, forgotten pathways and that peculiar feeling you sometimes get in an ancient place that countless people have stood there before you.
Seeing Sacred Isles finally leave the Emporium and begin making its way around the world has been wonderful.
Some of the messages I’ve received since the launch have genuinely stopped me in my tracks. Hearing that someone has discovered a connection to their British ancestry, recognised a landscape or simply felt something in the stillness of the imagery reminds me why I love creating these decks so much.
August has also been a month of parcels arriving in some very far-flung places.
I’ve had messages and photographs from customers in Japan, Bali, America, Canada, Europe and beyond, and I still find it slightly surreal to think that something which began life here at my desk is sitting on someone’s reading table thousands of miles away.
One of my favourite things is hearing when the handwritten card I tuck into an order turns out to be exactly what somebody needed at that particular moment. I choose them intuitively while I’m packing, so when someone writes to tell me their card resonated perfectly, it always gives me a little shiver.
And there have been plenty of parcels to pack!
Every order is still packed by hand, with all the little details that have somehow become part of the Hattie Thorn experience: crystals, handwritten cards, herbs, tiny gifts and the occasional special request.
Some parcels are gifts. Some need a particular message. Some customers have a favourite herb, some can’t have lavender, some ask for a card from a particular deck, and sometimes a box needs signing before it disappears halfway across the world.
It makes packing days slightly chaotic at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
🍁 A Little Autumn Has Arrived
The seaside charms that accompanied summer orders are now making way for something a little more seasonal.
From September, you may find a tiny autumn leaf charm tucked into your parcel.
I love changing these little extras with the seasons. They’re only small things, but there’s something lovely about opening a parcel and finding a tiny reminder of the time of year in which it reached you.
✨ And What Comes Next?
My desk is currently disappearing beneath ideas.
There are new decks being created, Christmas projects quietly taking shape, and enough sketches, notes and half-finished concepts to keep me occupied for a very long time.
I’ve also been having far too much fun disappearing into different worlds while designing them. Some are beautiful and nostalgic, some are darker, some are wonderfully festive and at least one is proving that Christmas and a slightly wicked sense of humour make very good companions.
I won’t spoil everything just yet.
But there is a lot coming.
For now, thank you.
Thank you for every order, every message, every photograph, every review and every time you recommend one of my decks to somebody else.
Whether you own one Hattie Thorn deck or have somehow acquired a small shelf full of them, knowing that these strange little worlds I create have found homes with you still feels extraordinary.
Here’s to September, cooler evenings, changing leaves and the beginning of tarot season!
Much love,
Hattie ✨🔮
