September at the Emporium: Autumn Arrives, New Decks & a Very Busy Tarot Table
September has been one of those months where I seem to have blinked and somehow found myself in October.
The Emporium has been incredibly busy, my desk has been covered in cards, my hallway has regularly been covered in parcels, and the number of half-finished ideas living inside my head has reached slightly ridiculous proportions.
In other words, a fairly normal month here.
🍂 Autumn Properly Arrived
September is always one of my favourite months.
There’s something about the first darker evenings, the leaves beginning to turn and that unmistakable feeling that autumn is finally on its way. And, of course, it means we are entering what I consider to be proper tarot season.
The Emporium has had its own autumn makeover too, with the Halloween decks coming back into the spotlight and little seasonal touches creeping into your parcels.
I’ve been tucking autumn and Halloween treats into orders, and judging by some of the messages I’ve received, I’m not the only person who gets ridiculously excited about tiny pumpkins, leaves and spooky things.
🎃 Halloween at the Emporium
Naturally, September meant the Halloween decks began stirring from their slumber.
It has been lovely seeing old favourites heading out again alongside newer additions, including Pumpkin Moon, which joined the Emporium this year.
I love designing Halloween decks because they give me permission to wander into the slightly stranger corners of my imagination. Gothic, eerie, whimsical, nostalgic or just a little peculiar, there are so many different ways to interpret the season.
And apparently quite a few of you are just as fond of those strange corners as I am.
All of my Halloween decks are currently 15% off until 31st October with code HALLOWEEN26, so if you’ve been eyeing one up, October is the month to succumb.
I am, of course, an entirely impartial observer in this matter.
🎄 Meanwhile... Christmas Has Been Taking Over My Desk
While the Emporium has been looking increasingly autumnal, behind the scenes I have been knee-deep in Christmas.
This is the peculiar life of a deck designer. While everyone else is thinking about pumpkins, I’m surrounded by Christmas trees, twinkling lights, snowy streets and an alarming number of people in vintage winter coats.
Several Christmas projects have been taking shape over the past few months, and September has been the month when some of them finally began turning from images on my screen into real decks I could hold in my hands.
That moment never gets old.
No matter how many decks I create, opening that first finished copy still feels a little bit like Christmas morning itself.
And there are two brand-new Christmas decks arriving at the Emporium this October.
I’ll be sharing much more about those very soon.
🌿 Sacred Isles Has Been Travelling
After launching in August, Sacred Isles Tarot & Oracle has spent September making its way around the world.
I’ve received some absolutely wonderful messages from people using the decks, particularly from those who have connections to Britain or recognise places and stories woven into the cards.
Sacred Isles was such a personal project to create, so seeing people actually reading with it rather than it existing only inside my head and on my computer is rather lovely.
The companion guide has also been making its way to Sacred Isles owners, giving me the chance to tell more of the folklore, history and stories behind the places featured in the cards.
It turns out that once I start talking about standing stones, ruined castles and ancient Britain, shutting me up again is quite difficult.
📦 Parcels, Parcels and More Parcels
September has also been a wonderfully busy month for orders.
There have been parcels heading to familiar names, parcels for people discovering the Emporium for the first time, gifts travelling directly to birthdays and celebrations, and increasingly impressive collections being assembled by some of you.
I have customers now who own so many Hattie Thorn decks that I occasionally wonder whether they have more of them on their shelves than I do.
One of the loveliest parts of this little business is recognising names as I pack orders.
I remember what you bought last time. I remember the lovely message you sent me. I remember when a deck was a birthday present, or when you came back for the one you nearly bought three months ago.
For an online shop sending decks all over the world, it has somehow become a very personal little place.
And I wouldn't change that for anything.
✨ What Comes Next?
October could be interesting.
The Halloween decks are out in force, two new Christmas decks are ready to make their debut, more projects are quietly developing behind the scenes and, despite repeatedly telling myself that perhaps I have enough deck ideas for the moment, I have apparently ignored myself completely.
There may even be something rather louder than usual beginning to take shape on my desk...
But more about that another time.
For now, thank you for another wonderful month.
Thank you for keeping me busy, for showing me your collections, for sending photographs when your parcels arrive and for all the lovely messages that regularly make me stop what I’m doing and smile.
September was wonderful.
Now bring on October. Pumpkins, tarot cards, darker nights and the first little twinkle of Christmas waiting around the corner.
My favourite time of year has officially begun.
Much love,
Hattie ✨🔮
