Deck of the Undead is a 78-card tarot deck that drags traditional tarot kicking and screaming into the radioactive graveyard of tomorrow.

Inspired by 1950s pulp horror, vintage monster comics and atomic-age visions of the apocalypse, its world is filled with zombies, ruined cities, rusted swords, flaming bones and broken chalices, all rendered with the wonderfully lurid drama of an old horror cover you'd probably have hidden from your mother.

But the undead aren't the only ones with something to say.

Scavengers, survivors, heartbreakers, dreamers and doom prophets crawl through the ruins, each carrying familiar tarot themes into a world where civilisation may have collapsed but apparently nobody has stopped having relationship problems.

Beneath the blood, bones and radioactive fallout is a complete traditional tarot structure, but each card also carries its own message directly on the card. There's no need to keep reaching for a guidebook while you're reading, and some of those messages have a decidedly dark sense of humour.

Because apparently even the apocalypse can be funny.

That makes Deck of the Undead wonderfully easy to pick up and read. Beginners can use the printed messages as a way into the cards, while experienced readers can combine them with their own knowledge of traditional tarot.

The post-apocalyptic setting also gives familiar questions a rather different flavour. What are you fighting to preserve? What needs to be left behind? Who can you trust? What's worth rebuilding? And when everything changes, what survives?

It's particularly suited to readings around resilience, relationships, conflict, difficult decisions, endings, transformation and starting again after something has gone spectacularly wrong.
